FILMMAKER GEORGE W. TILLMAN JR AND “CINEMATIC` ARTS FILM” KICKS OFF THE “BIRTH OF SOUL MUSIC” TOUR WITH DOCUMENTARY FILM AND CONCERT



Memphis -Tennessee - On Friday May 7 “Cinematic Arts” debuted the “Birth of Soul Music” Documentary at the Halloran Centre in downtown Memphis. The film was written, directed and produced by filmmaker George W. Tillman Jr. tells a story of music history during segregation.

This story is about music history, a culture of music that has risen since segregation. “Club Paradise”, which became the hottest venue to play in the South. Club Paradise was opened by Sunbeam Mitchell in 1962.


 


This will be a 3-night event on May 7th, 8th & 9th. The show will feature the showing of the film and a live concert each night. The event headline with Grammy Award winner Bobby Rush on Friday night and local artist. Saturday night headliner actor and singer LaRita Shelby and local artist. Sunday night headliner blues artist Brigitte Purdy and local artist.


 


The event will also host a “Vendors Lounge” in the lobby of the Halloran Centre. The lounge will have vendors from different businesses from the mid-south. The lounge will open at 4pm each day and will be free to the public to shop with the vendors, check out our music history display and meet the Jump Rope Girls in town filming the movie “Jump Rope Girls”.

 

The film starts at 7pm each night followed by the concert(s). Tickets available online at ticketmaster.com
