Every Champion Was Once A Contender: Charles Champ Harris Name Definitely Speaks For Itself

Charles “Champ” Harris is a Mississippi native and the first African American Male Boxer to win the IBF Championship in the welterweight division. He says,"Staying in Mississippi isn't easy to be noticed by organizations like Top Rank, but I give grace to God who gives me the honor to do what I love to do and that is boxing."

Sadly, At the age of six, Charles's father passed away. Life shifted for "The Champ", being raised by his mother, whose role became that of both parents. He says,"My mom became both my mom and my dad and I think she did a great job raising 6 boys by herself.” In his adulthood, Charles began to mentor children and became an advocate for "No Bullying" because he was once a victim of bullying. He stated that,''When kids bully others, they don’t understand what the victim is going through, and it's important to me to help put a stop to that.”

In 2012, Charles "Champ" Harris began his career as a boxer. He is currently undefeated with a record of 7-0 with 4 knockouts. He won the IBF 145 title on January 17, 2016. After accomplishing this task, Charles decided to move up in the next weight division and added on 25 lbs. A year later, at the Hard Rock Casino, he won two championship belts.

Charles gives recognition to Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, and Floyd Mayweather for being the main influences throughout his career path as well as his style of boxing.

When asked, what inspired Champ to become a boxer?

Champ replied "My baby brother was my inspiration. I wanted to honor his dream. He had the hands and I had the face. We still train together, but our paths have changed and I wanted to be something in life and boxing was it."

Champ said, "I like the Heavyweight division but for me it is between the current division or a division down."

When asked, what is next for the Champ's career?

Champ stated,"Keith "One Time" Thurman, he's going to be "No Time" when I get done with him! No disrespect but I'm a fighter and I want to let EVERYONE know that there is a kid from Mississippi coming to claim his title!"
